Most Talked About Upcoming Electric Cars In India In 2023-24

With electric cars now getting extremely popular in the country, multiple brands are preparing to launch multiple new electric cars in the country

With improving charging infrastructure and growing demand for electric cars in India, a number of brands are currently planning to launch new electric offerings in the market. For those wondering, brands like Hyundai, Honda, Tata, MG and Renault are said to be considering expanding their electric portfolio for the Indian market. Having said this, here are the top upcoming electric cars in India in 2023-24 which are currently getting strong attention from the buyers in the country.

MG Comet EV

MG will soon be launching the new Comet EV in the country and will be positioning it as one of the smallest electric cars in India. The brand earlier shared details about the new Comet EV ahead of the official launch. From what we know so far, the new Comet EV will come in five colour options and will boast a claimed range of a little over 300 km. Once launched, it will be directly challenging the new Tata Tiago EV in the country and will be sold as a premium and feature-rich hatchback in the country. Inside, the electric hatchback will be offered with a two-spoke steering wheel with a large single-piece screen that works as the infotainment system and instrument console. In addition to this, it will also be offered with features like automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, electronic climate control, voice command, and more. For those wondering, the electric hatchback will be offered with two battery pack options – 17.3 kWh and 26. kWh. While the smaller battery pack will offer a range of 200 km, the larger battery on the other hand will offer a driving range of over 300 km. More details will soon be shared by the brand ahead of the official launch in the country.

Tata Altroz EV

The Tata Altroz EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and is likely to make its debut somewhere in late 2023 or early 2024. From what we know so far, the new Altroz EV will retain the exterior styling language save for a few changes like a new front grille, electric blue trim elements, and more. In addition to this, it will also be offered with exclusive colour options. Reports suggest that the new Altroz EV will share its powertrain with the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV gets a 30.2 kWh battery pack that powers a 129 bhp electric motor. This setup boasts a maximum range of 312 km on a single charge while multiple charging options are also offered for the users. On the features front, the new Altroz EV is likely to get a similar dashboard layout while features like a touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument console, keyless entry, push-button start, iRA-connected car tech, automatic climate control, and more. The Altroz is currently offered with multiple powertrain options – 1.2L Revotron NA petrol, and 1.2L i-Turbo petrol. These engines are also offered with manual as well as automatic gearbox options. In addition to this, the new Altroz will soon be launched with a 1.2L Revotron Bi-Fuel CNG engine option for buyers.

Tata Punch EV

The Tata Punch is the first micro-SUV in the brand’s line-up and is one of the best-selling cars in the Indian market. The Punch gives strong competition to the rivals like the Maruti Ignis and the Citroen C3 and is offered with a 1.3L Revotron petrol engine. This engine is offered with a manual as well as an automatic gearbox option. Having said this, the brand will soon be launching the new Punch with an all-electric powertrain. Reports suggest that the new Punch EV is likely to share its powertrain options with the upcoming Altroz or the Tiago EV and will be underpinned by the modified ALFA platform. Furthermore, the brand is likely to be offered with a 25 kWh battery pack that will offer a claimed range of over 300 km on a single charge. While the brand is yet to comment on the official launch date of the new Punch EV in India, we are expecting the new Punch EV to make its debut somewhere in late 2023 or early 2024. Once launched, the new Punch EV will be positioned above the new Tiago EV and will challenge the rivals like the Citroen eC3 and the upcoming MG Comet EV. The Tata Punch EV price in India is likely to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Hyundai Kona Facelift

The Hyundai Kona was one of the first electric cars to be launched in the country and was appreciated for its premium and feature-rich cabin. The Korean carmaker is believed to be working on launching the new Kona facelift in the country in the next few months. The new Kona facelift will be offered with a number of updates and new features that will give it a fresh appeal. For starters, the new 2023 Hyundai Kona facelift will boast comprehensive updates to the exteriors which will be largely dominated by a new front fascia and a re-profiled rear look. The side profile however will remain largely similar to the outgoing model save for a few changes like new machine-cut alloy wheels, roof rails, etc. Inside, the new Kona facelift will get an updated dashboard layout with a new 10.25-inch digital instrument console while we will also see a new 10.25-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new Kona facelift will also get features like BlueLink connected car tech, voice control, remote charging, wireless charging, automatic climate control, sunroof, electrically operated ORVMs, auto-dimming IRVMs, etc. On the safety front, the new Kona facelift will get new safety features like blindspot assistance, rear cross-traffic assistance, safe exit warning and eCall. In the global markets, the new Kona EV is offered with two powertrain options – a 136 hp single motor with a 39.2 kWh battery pack and a 204 hp single motor with a larger 64 kWh battery pack. While the smaller battery pack offers a claimed range of 304 km on a single changer, the larger 64 kWh battery offers a claimed range of 483 km on a single charge. While the brand is yet to comment on the powertrain options to be made available with the new Kona electric facelift, the pre-facelift iteration is offered with a 39.2 kWh battery pack with a 136 hp electric motor. Hyundai will be launching the new Kona facelift in India as a CKD unit and will be positioning it as a direct rival to the cars like the MG ZS EV in India.

Hyundai Creta EV

The Hyundai Creta EV was recently spied testing in the Indian market and is likely to go on sale in late 2024 or in 2025. While Hyundai is yet to comment on the official launch timeline of the Creta EV or other details, we are expecting Hyundai to soon expand its electric portfolio in India. Internally code-named SU2i EV, this new electric SUV will boast a clean exterior design which will be largely similar to the upcoming Creta facelift in the country. Having said this, just like the new Creta, this electric SUV will also boast a feature-rich and a premium cabin which will be offered with a long list of features like wireless charging, ventilated front seats, touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument console, connected car tech, sunroof, automatic climate control, push-button start, Type C charging ports, rear AC vents, and more. The brand is also likely to offer with many new and advanced driver assistance features like ADAS Level 2. This safety suite gets features like blind spot monitoring system, autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning and avoidance, lane keep assist, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic alert, active cruise control, etc. More details about the launch of the new Hyundai Creta EV are yet to be known.

Honda Electric SUV

With electric vehicles now getting extremely popular in the country, Honda is now planning to soon launch and expand its electric portfolio in the country. The brand earlier revealed the new Prologue electric SUV concept in the country which is likely to go on sale in North America sometime in 2024. The brand is also said to be considering launching a new electric SUV in the Indian market which is said to boast an aggressive and sporty exterior design. Needless to say, this new Honda electric SUV will be offered with a long list of features and many safety features and equipment. In addition to this, Honda will also be launching a new SUV in the country soon to take on the rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Maruti Grand Vitara. More details about the new Honda electric SUV will soon be shared by the brand ahead of the launch.

Mahindra XUV.e8

The Mahindra XUV.e8 was one of the five upcoming concept electric SUVs showcased by the brand last year and will also be the first of the five concept SUVs to go on sale in India. Also called as the electric XUV700, the new XUV.e8 will be underpinned by a new skateboard platform which will be made specifically for this new electric SUV. For starters, the concept model measures 4740 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, 1760 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2762 mm. On the design front, the new XUV.e8 will be offered with a number of exterior updates including a closed-off front grille, bumper-mounted headlamps, full-width LED light bars, and a sharply chiselled front fascia. It will also boast a new interior layout with multiple screen setup and a clean dashboard design. A quick comparison of the new XUV.e8 with the XUV700 reveals that it is around 45 mm longer in length, 10 mm wider, and 5 mm taller. The wheelbase is longer by 7 mm. While the official specifications are yet to be shared, the new XUV.e8 is likely to be offered with an 80 kWh battery pack which will come paired with either a dual-motor AWD system or a single-motor FWD system.

Renault Kwid EV

Renault will soon be making significant investments in the Indian market and will be launching multiple new products including a new electric hatchback. Likely to be called as Kwid EV, this new hatchback will be a direct rival to the cars like the Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, and the Citroen eC3. Having said this, the new Renault Kwid EV will be offered with a practical and feature-rich package and is likely to offer a range of 230-250 km on a single charge. More details however are yet to be known.
