The new 2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be rivalling the other D-Segment SUVs in the Indian market
Toyota recently showcased the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder in India and will soon be officially launching the car in the market. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the brand’s first midsize SUV for the Indian market and has been co-developed with Maruti Suzuki. The 2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder bookings are now open in the country for an amount of Rs 25,000. Two powertrain options will be on offer with the Hyryder while some of the variants will also feature AWD. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Looks And Design
While Toyota is yet to share the official dimensions of the Hyryder, what we do get is an aggressive and fresh styling that makes the Urban Cruiser Hyryder looks fresher and more similar to the brand’s SUVs currently on sale in the global markets. Upfront, the car gets sleek double-layer DRLs, a piano-finished ‘Crystal Acrylic’ grille and larger full-LED headlamps. Move the sides and you will notice prominent Hybrid badging on the doors. The machine-finish alloys look great and complement the overall look. At the rear, you will not fail to notice the slim C-shaped LED tail lights extending into the tailgate with dual C-shaped parking lamps. A prominent chrome strip in the centre merges into the tail lamps and gets the Toyota logo in the middle. In all, the Urban Cruiser is a handsome-looking SUV and boasts a strong road presence that will definitely impress a lot of buyers in the market looking for D-segment SUVs.

Interiors And Features
On the inside, the dashboard might remind you of the newly launched Brezza and features a dual-tone, brown-black layout with padded leather on the dahs and on the door pads as well. Having said this, the dual-tone theme will only be offered in full hybrid iterations while the mild-hybrid versions will get all-black interiors. On the features front, the car gets an automatic climate control unit that is similar to what we see in the Brezza, a 90inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a new steering wheel that gets a big and bold logo in the centre. Other features like ventilated seats, wireless charging, cruise control, digital instrument console, push-button start, and a large panoramic sunroof are also offered with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Powertrain And Hybrid Tech
The Japanese carmaker will be offering two powertrain options with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder – 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle Strong-Hybrid Engine and a 1.5L K15C Mild-Hybrid Petrol engine. The 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine churns out 92 hp and 122 Nm of maximum torque. This engine is paired to an electric motor that boasts a claimed power and torque output of 79 hp and 141 Nm respectively. The combined power from this setup stands at 115 hp while it comes mated to the Toyota’s e-drive transmission. The hybrid system gets a 177.6V lithium-ion battery that helps the Urban Cruiser Hyryder cover around 40 per cent of the total distance and 60 per cent time in pure EV mode while being used in Indian conditions.

The second engine on offer is the Neo Drive engine which is essentially Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5L K15C mild-hybrid engine that comes with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). We see the same engine in other cars like the new Brezza, XL6, and the Ertiga. The peak power output from this engine stands at 103 bhp while the maximum torque stands at 137 Nm. Two engine options are available with this powertrain – a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Safety
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder gets a long list of safety features that make it a worthy alternative to its rivals. For starters, this SUV is available with features like six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP, hill-hold assist, 3-point seatbelts, all-wheel disc brakes, and hill descent control. Other standard features like seat-belt reminders, speed alerts, rear parking sensors, ABS, etc are also offered with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Price And Launch Date
Toyota will be announcing the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder price in August 2022 at the time of the official launch of the SUV. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be manufactured in Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka and will also be built for export purposes. The Hyryder will go on sale first after which the Maruti’s iteration will be introduced in India. For those wondering, the Japanese carmaker will be offering a 3-year/1,00,000 km warranty which can be extended to 5 year/2,22,000 km. The hybrid batteries on the other hand are covered for up to 8 years/1,60,000 km. Once launched, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will take on the rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, and the Skoda Kushaq.
