The new Toyota Fortuner Leader will first go on sale in Thailand after which Toyota might also be introduced in the Indian market
The Toyota Fortuner is currently one of the best-selling SUVs not only in the Indian market but in other global markets as well. The Japanese carmaker however has regularly updated theĀ Toyota Fortuner line-up with the launch of new variants and has now again introduced a new top-spec variant for the South East Asian markets. Called the Fortuner Leader, this new variant offers a number of cosmetic updates and safety upgrades over other models and here are all the details that you should know about the newly introduced 2022 Toyota Fortuner Leader variant.
2022 Toyota Fortuner Leader
To start with, the Leader variant of the Toyota Fortuner gets a new front grille that not only looks sportier but also gels in well with the overall aggressive character of the Fortuner. Moving further on, this full-size SUV also gets new front and rear bumpers in addition to new gloss black styling elements. These new gloss black styling elements include black rear door trim, black side stems, etc. In addition to this, the Leader variant also gets new 18-inch alloy wheels that look premium and better than the standard iteration.

The LED headlights however remain similar but you will now get electrically folding side mirrors and an electric tailgate as a standard part of the package. For those wondering, the new Toyota Fortuner Leader will be available in six exterior colour options. These include Dark Blue Metallic, Emotional Red, Platinum White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Dark Gray Metallic, and Attitude Black Mica.

Move inside the cabin of the new Toyota Fortuner Leader and you will not fail to notice that the dashboard layout remains almost similar to the standard iterations of the car. You will however get features like automatic climate control with a PM 2.5 air conditioning filter, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Toyota Connect connectivity system, paddle shifters, and powered front seats. In addition to this, you will also get enhanced safety features that include features like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a 6-position parking sensor setup in addition to other features like a 360-degree camera, Brake Assist, Hill-start Assist, and more.

Powering the Fortuner Leader is a 2.4L, 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine churns out 150 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque while it comes mated only to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The buyers do have an option to opt for the 4-wheel drive version over the standard 2-wheel drive version. In the Indian market, the Fortuner is available with a 2.7L petrol or with a 2.8L diesel engine, both of which can be had with manual as well as automatic gearbox options.

While the brand is yet to share its plan to launch the new Fortuner Leader in India, the current line-up of this full-size SUV is enough to draw impressive sales figures in the Indian market every month. If brought to India, this iteration of the Fortuner is expected to be priced from Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom).
