With Honda, Toyota and Maruti launching their hybrid cars in the Indian market, car buyers are now showing a strong interest in hybrid powertrain options. While most affordable hybrid cars have had their own share of positive responses from buyers, we still have limited hybrid cars in the country. To use this as an opportunity, multiple car brands are now gearing up to launch more hybrid cars in India in the next one year. Toyota Innova HyCross

The Toyota Innova is one of the most talked about and trusted MPVs in the market and is soon due for a major update. Toyota recently revealed the next-gen Toyota Innova HyCross and will soon introduce it in the Indian market. Based on the new front-wheel-drive TNGA-C platform, the new Innova Hycross will be larger than the present-gen Innova Crysta and will be offered with a heavily localized version of the THS II (Toyota Hybrid System). This setup, in addition to a refined engine, also gets a twin-motor layout with high step-off torque and offers commendable fuel economy figures. In Indonesia, it is offered with a 2.0L NA petrol as well as a strong hybrid engine. For those wondering, the Toyota Innova HyCross will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta in its initial stage. Maruti Suzuki C-Segment MPV

To take on the rivals like Toyota Innova, Maruti Suzuki is believed to launch a new C-segment MPV in India by mid-2023. Expected to be sold via the NEXA premium dealership network, this new C-segment MPV will be the most expensive car in the brand’s line-up and will offer a comfortable and premium cabin for the buyers. This new MPV is expected to be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi-based manufacturing facility and will share its engine options with the Innova Hycross including the 2.0L petrol-strong hybrid setup. From what we know so far, this new MPV will be sold via the NEXA dealership network.

Nissan X-Trail

The new Nissan X-Trail was recently showcased by Nissan in the country and will go on sale in the next few months. The new Nissan X-Trail will be brought into the country via the CBU route and will be offered with two powertrain options – 163 PS, 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol with strong hybrid tech. The new X-Trail will be offered with e-Power tech and offers a peak power and torque output of 204 PS and 300 Nm respectively in the 2WD setup and 213 PS and 525 Nm of maximum torque in the 4WD setup. It will go on sale in 2023 and is expected to be offered in both 5 as well as 7-seat configurations. More details will soon be shared by the brand.

Honda Compact SUV

Honda is currently believed to be working on a couple of two new SUVs for the Indian market and is likely to launch these in the next few months. Both these SUVs are likely to be offered with petrol and petrol strong-hybrid powertrain options. The compact SUV will share its underpinnings with the Amaze sedan and might also get the same diesel motor on some variants. More details will soon be shared by Honda. Once launched, this SUV will take on the rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Brezza, and other sub-4m compact SUVs in the market.
