Rimac Nevera Shatters Top Speed Record to Become Fastest Production Electric Car on Earth

Rimac-Nevera

Until a couple of years ago, electric cars carried the perception of being slow and boring. Now in 2022, modern-day electric supercars are breaking all the paradoxes associated with them. They are now shattering top speed records as well. We should note that powering them is electricity, after all. Well, moving on to the point of writing this story altogether – Rimac Nevera, it is now the fastest production electric car in the world. The electric supercar broke the world record by achieving a top speed of 412 kmph at the Papenburg automatic testing track near the Holland border in North Germany.

The record-breaking exercise was witnessed at this track because of its 4.02 km long straight. The car was put to this attempt in the top speed mode, which is apt at delivering a balance of both downforce and reduced aerodynamic drag. Exercising such a top speed record has one major challenge from tyres, and interestingly, the Rimac Never could reach the record-shattering speeds with street-legal rubber from Michelin.

“The most important thing I have learned during the top-speed attempt is how composed and stable the car was — confirming that our aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics team have done an amazing job,” Zrnčević said in a statement.

Yes, the top speed of 412 kmph is exorbitantly high, and thus the Nevera comes with a restricted top speed of 352 kmph. Owners will be able to access the top-speed mode at certain events only, organized by the manufacturer itself. Also, it isn’t the first time that Nevera made headlines for its performance. Earlier, the electric supercar registered its name in news titles for its 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 1.97 seconds and finishing a quarter-mile run in just 8.583 seconds.

The Nevera manages to do these miracles with its peak power output of 1,914 hp and 2,360 Nm of max torque. Well, it gets a huge 120 kWh battery pack and takes only 9.3 seconds to reach 300 kmph mark on the speedometer. It also carbon fibre construction to keep the heft in check, whereas braking power comes from 390 mm rotor at all ends, paired to 6-piston cooled calipers.
