Renault And Nissan To Launch As Many As 6 New Models In India

Renault and Nissan recently confirmed that as many as six new models and SUVs will soon be launched in the Indian market in the next few years

Renault and Nissan are now gearing up to update their portfolios in the country with the launch of multiple new models including two new electric vehicles. All these models will be the brands’ other attempts to dominate the Indian mass market. In addition to this, both brands will also be launching their electric vehicles to gain an advantage of the increasing EV popularity in the Indian market. Having said this, here are all the details you need to know about the upcoming Nissan and Renault cars in India.

For starters, both brands will be working on the new CMF-B architecture which will be used to underpin the new-gen Duster and the upcoming Nissan mid-size SUV. Furthermore, the same platform will also be used to underpin the upcoming Bigster 7-seater SUV. For those wondering, Nissan will also be launching its own 7-seater SUV in India. From what we know so far, both the SUVs will be offered with turbo petrol engine options and no diesel engine will be on offer for the buyers.

The brand is also working on launching new SUVs in India via the CBU route. The first SUV to be launched under this programme will be the Nissan X-Trail which was earlier showcased by the Japanese carmaker. In addition to this, both brands are also working on common A-segment electric vehicles for the Indian market. Nissan is also said to working on the mid-life facelift version of the Magnite compact SUV which might on go sale in the next few months.

Post the new strategic announcement, Ashwani Gupta, COO of Nissan Motor Corporation, said, “India, which became the third largest market in the world with roughly 4.7 million vehicles sold, is soon going to cross six million vehicles – a 27 percent growth. After spending over 12 years together on manufacturing, R&D and digital hubs, we are finally going to come up with a very pragmatic line-up focusing on SUVs. Talking about electric vehicles, we are going to maximise our assets. There are multiple projects in the pipeline, and as and when we are ready, we will be sharing them with you.”

Nissan and Renault will also be launching new electric vehicles in the country. The first electric car to go on sale with be the Kwid EV which will be underpinned by the CMF-A platform. The brands might also launch a new SUV or a crossover in India which will be underpinned by the same platform.

On the critical role of India, Luca De Meo, the global CEO of Renault said, “With bigger and more technological cars based on the Renault platform, it is the only possibility for us and Nissan to stay profitable in one of the most important markets in the world.”
