The new Pravaig Defy electric SUV was recently launched in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 39.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The Defy electric SUV is the first product in the brand’s line-up and boasts a bold and massive road presence. For those wondering, the brand was first founded in 2011 in Jaipur and began as a specialist off-road buggy maker in the country. Exterior Design

Speaking of the design, this new electric SUV features angular styling with crossover-like cues and the brand calls the styling theme ‘brutal sophistication’. Furthermore, it also features black paint at the top half and has large angular windows and a sloping roof to give it a sporty look. Move to the rear and you will notice a strong character line that runs from the rear fender across the width, and neatly merges with the tailgate and horizontally placed LED light bar. Pravaig says the SUV has a “notably dynamic” shape with a drag coefficient of 0.33. The Defy EV SUV gets 18-inch alloy wheels with 255/65R18 tyres. It also gets optional “aero covers”, which, according to the brand, would add up to 10km or more range per charge, especially on the highway.

Interiors

Inside, the SUV gets interiors made from sustainable fabrics while the upholstery is made of vegan leather. It gets features like a six-way power adjustment and ventilation, a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 5G connectivity, over-the-air updates, a digital instrument console, driving modes and a Devialet 3D sound system. It can also be had with a 4-seat interior that can be optioned with two individual rear captain seats, a 240V outlet, a wireless charger and two individual 15.6-inch screens. Other features like automatic climate control, a connected car app, mood lighting, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, 77Ghz solid state radar, LED headlamps, tyre pressure monitoring system and six airbags as standard.

Platform And Powertrain

The SUV is built on a dedicated skateboard platform with the battery pack placed in the centre. This setup helps in liberating more space inside the cabin and in the boot. The brand also shared that the same platform might be used for future products. Powering the SUV is a dual electric motor set-up, which generates 407 hp and 620 Nm of maximum torque. Furthermore, it also gets three levels of regeneration, four-wheel disc brakes, ABS, and ESP.

Battery And Range

The new Pravaig Defy EV SUV gets a 90.9 kWh battery pack with a claimed real-life range of 500 km on a single charge. It features a 5-module Li-ion battery with 5000 hardcase shells. This SUV can be charged with either a home charger or via a fast charger. It also gets an optional 7.2 kW home charger top up upto 300 km of range in around eight hours. It can also be charged using a 150 kW DC fast charging. The brand is in the process of partnering with multiple charging infrastructure providers across India at the moment.
