New Volkswagen Electric Car Spied In India - Launch Soon?

The new Volkswagen electric car in India will challenge the rivals like the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5

It’s been a long since Volkswagen announced its plan to introduce its new VW electric line-up in the Indian market. The brand also joined hands with Mahindra recently and the two brands will be sharing a new platform and many other critical components for the development of new electric cars that will be introduced soon in the market. Having said this, the VW ID.4 was recently spotted in India thus suggesting that the brand might be planning to launch it soon in the country. Here are all the details that we know so far about the upcoming new Volkswagen electric car in India.

Upcoming Volkswagen ID.4 Electric Car In India

For starters, the car spotted in India was the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX, a high-performance variant of the electric crossover. It is based on the brand’s ID Crozz Concept which was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. While all the variants of the ID-4 look similar, the GTX version gets exclusive 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and many other subtle changes to differentiate itself from the other versions.

Inside, we get a premium and well-laid dashboard layout with colour contrast materials. In addition to this, it also gets dark blue panels with contrasting sticking and a digital instrument console while a 10-inch instrument console is a standard part of the package. The higher-spec versions of the car get a larger 12-inch infotainment system while there are GTX logos on the seats and steering wheel. It also gets ambient lighting and a HUD.

New Volkswagen Electric Car

It is underpinned by VW’s new MEB global scalable platform that is also utilised in the Skoda Enyaq. For those wondering, the VW ID.4 gets a 77 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor setup with a combined power output of 295 bhp. The claimed range stands at 418 km while the car is 4584 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2765 mm. The car also boasts a 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 6.2 seconds while the top speed is electronically limited to 180 kmph.

The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX is expected to be priced from Rs 50 to Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom) and will take on the rivals like the Kia EV6, Volvo XC60 Recharge, and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5. The brand is however yet to share more details about the official launch of the new ID.4 in India.
