The automaker that made that World War easy for the Americans – Jeep, has launched its flagship product in the Indian market. Yes, we are talking about the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which now enters the Indian market in just one ‘Limited’ trim at a price tag of Rs 77.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The Jeep Grand Cherokee nameplate has been in existence for over 3 decades now, but it is a fairly new name in our market. While the last-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee made it to the Indian market via the CBU route, this time around, it comes as a CKD model. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is the company’s fourth model that will be locally-produced at its Ranjangaon-based production facility.

The Grand Cherokee locks horns with the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Volvo XC 90, Range Rover Velar and more. Moving over to the Grand Cherokee’s design, it is distinctive for sure. The SUV uses boxy appeal with upright stance. Highlights on the nose include a 7-slat chrome-finished radiator grille, high-set and flat bonnet, tighter bumper design, and a pair of slim LED headlamps.

Around the sides, large glass area remains the Grand Cherokee’s noticeable design detail, and it lets a lot of light enter the cabin. The SUV rides on a set of large 20-inch alloy wheels. The tapered roof line is said to be assisting in reducing the aerodynamic drag without compromising on the boot space. The rear face dons a par of slim led taillamps, which feature a similar glow pattern as LED DRLs – a hard straight line.

The cabin of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is spacious with ample room in both rows. A 5-seat configuration remains standard, making the Grand Cherokee missing out on the option of 3 rows of seats. The dashboard now sports slim AC vents with a neatly laid-out centre console.

Counting displays – there are four of them on offer. The list includes a large 10-inch head-up display, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and a 10.25-inch display for the front passenger. To keep the occupants safe, 8 airbags, level-2 ADAS come as standard fitment along with other active and passive safety features.

Bonnet of the Jeep Grand Cherokee hides a 2.0L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor that can push out a peak output of 272 hp and 400 Nm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed AT, which sends power to all the wheels of the SUV via an AWD system. Also, the SUV gets multiple terrain modes to help it conquer tough terrains.
