The Batmobile is perhaps the most iconic film car of all time, rivalled only by James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 and the Mini Cooper from The Italian Job. Every cinematic form of the Batman character has had its version of the vehicle, with the Batmobile frequently serving as a character in its own right.
Although the Batmobile has evolved significantly over the years, it is always simple to identify, even when a model has a highly distinctive and new design and lacks a clear Bat emblem.

It can be difficult to find out since each age has “their” Batmobile, and it’s difficult for them to conceive designs from a previous generation being better. The Brave And The Bold
The principal sin of the next vehicle is copycats (or should that be copybats?). Batman-inspired this design: The Brave and the Bold, a cartoon that freely (and often humorously) reflected the Caped Crusader’s campy history. That channelling extended to the Batmobile’s design!
While it turned out well, this is a Frankenstein mix of prior concepts. The 1940s “face” Batmobile, the sleekness of the Animated Series vehicle and the noticeable fin from Batman and Robin. All of those were interesting designs in their own right, but imitating them is the opposite of originality. To be sure, competing with the other animated Batmobiles is difficult!
Batman 1966
Nuclear batteries to power… turbines to spin! It was many fans’ first time seeing the Batmobile, and it was Adam West’s car of choice. The design is reminiscent of the original Batman show’s look — it’s colourful, bold, and surely loud!
1966’s Batman The Batmobile is one of the most famous vehicles of all time, not only because of its distinctive appearance but also because the show was so influential. The Batmobile’s design was ideal for the campy, lighthearted take on the Dark Knight.
The popularity of this style and interpretation of the Batman character has endured throughout the years, with the 1960s Batman TV series earning its comic book series and skins in Batman: Arkham Knight.
Batman & Robin
While the design of this Batmobile has a lot to answer for, mostly because it is open-topped with incredibly extended batwings on the rear, it is still one of the most memorable, original and best Batmobile designs ever. This variant, inspired by the Burton Batmobile, retained the lengthy form while also including a stylish, exposed engine design.
While Batman & Robin received very harsh criticism from both critiques and die-hard fans, the movie does have some redeeming qualities, one of which is this iconic Batmobile.
BATMAN V. SUPERMAN
The only thing nastier than the battle between Batman and Superman is the battle amongst fans over whether or not this film was any good. However, there is one point on which we believe all fans can agree: the Batmobile in this film is one of the worst ever created.
It’s a mashup design that turned out to be considerably less than the sum of its components. The sleek form of the 1989 Batmobile, for example, was combined with Batman’s Tumbler to produce what is essentially a flat tank. Perhaps Batman wants the Mad Max: Fury Road style, but this baby is awful!
Furthermore, the Batmobile was inspired by the Arkham series of games, particularly the Batmobile’s ‘combat mode’ in Arkham Knight.

Arkham Asylum
When it was released in 2009, Arkham Asylum was a monumental, famous, and influential video game. The video game, developed by Rocksteady and starring the voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, not only established one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time but also contributed to introducing a revolutionary fighting system.
Nobody could have guessed how wonderful the Arkham Asylum computer game would be, and the sequels were equally good. Despite the darker and more serious character designs, the games felt like a sequel to Batman: The Animated Series (reuniting iconic voice actors like Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill). The game’s Batmobile is also reminiscent of the animation.
While the Batmobile did not appear much in the video game, only for an introductory cinematic and combat against Bane, it was a well-designed vehicle.
Batman Beyond
The Batman Beyond Batmobile has the most distinctive design on this list. Because the programme is set in a future Gotham, a full redesign of the Batmobile was required to help construct this new and distinct Batman.
Did anybody say “flying Batmobile?” The selected heroic vehicle for Batman Beyond is next on the list. It certainly takes inspiration from past Batmobiles (most notably the Batwing), but when flying automobiles are the norm in the future, this is just the new Batman’s daily commute.
The look is clean and straightforward, including several devices “under the hood.” This contains a cloaking device, missiles, a grappling hook, and various other items. This vehicle contributed to Batman’s (and Bruce Wayne’s before him) reputation for having a gadget-based answer to every problem.
As a result, the Batmobile in Batman Beyond resembles a spaceship rather than a car/tank. The vehicle is capable of flight and invisibility and has a one-of-a-kind cockpit design.
Dark Knight Trilogy
Not only is the Dark Knight Trilogy responsible for some of the most critically acclaimed and financially successful Batman films of all time, but it is also one of the most beloved cinema trilogies of all time. Following the failure of Batman & Robin, the trilogy helped to revitalise Batman’s film career.
This is essentially a simplified version of the tank-like Batmobile from the Dark Knight Returns comic. While the removable Batpod is a nice touch, we couldn’t get the notion that this was a poor replica of a far superior design. We’d say “better luck next time,” but we all know how horrible the next cinematic Batmobile was.
The Batmobile was designed for use more than form, keeping with the realistic and gritty tone of the films. This Batmobile does not have batwings; instead, it is an army vehicle that has been spray painted black.
Batman Forever
Like Batman & Robin, Batman Forever was not a critical hit like its predecessors. The picture departed from Tim Burton’s dark, gothic image of Batman, favouring a more lighthearted, family-friendly depiction of the character.
That said, while Batman Forever was not a tremendous success, its Batmobile design was. While it did not capture the gloomy aspect of Batman in the same way that the Burton films did, it did catch a more contemporary comic book look that was commendable.
Batman 1989
This is the Batmobile, according to many fans. The Burton films had to develop a Batman film that was dark, serious, and a little terrifying, a difficult task made more difficult by Adam West’s campy Batman, the most renowned mainstream render of the character at the time.
Nonetheless, Burton nailed his portrayal of the character, and the Batmobile’s design was one of his films’ most successful aspects. The car brilliantly matched Burton’s overall look, with the long, styled Batmobile being a gothic masterpiece.
Batman: The Animated Series
Batman: The Animated Series is one of the most highly acclaimed, influential, and loved animated series. Taking cues from Tim Burton’s films, showrunners Bruce Timm and Paul Dini created a dark, film noir version of Batman that spawned characters like Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya, and even a new origin story for Mr Freeze.
While the Batman: The Animated Series Batmobile is influenced by the design of the Batmobile from the Burton films, it also has significant changes that make it unique. As a result, many fans consider this to be the finest version of the Batmobile.

Furthermore, it’s both menacing and elegant, which isn’t often the case with Batmobiles. This is not something you want to see following you down near Gotham sanitation. But if you saw it parked in front of City Hall, you’d think it was the best thing in the world. The disadvantage for ordinary individuals is that its wide design would make it difficult to convert into a regular automobile. But you bet we’d want to go off-road with this bad boy.
The most recent addition to the live-action Batmobile lineup hasn’t given us as much information as we’d like. According to the trailers, The Batman’s Batmobile has a few common characteristics, such as a badass exposed mid-engine, illuminating inside sections, and a broad body. It appears incredibly safe despite having significantly more holes than any other Batmobile. Because we know it can withstand collisions and jump over fire, this automobile is more vulnerable when it is still than when it is moving. Hopefully, when Robert Pattinson’s Batman gains experience, he’ll realise the importance of having armour on his car.
